PR 1

“I tried a set of BHPs at VIR North last weekend and I like them. They compare very favorably to Hawk HT-10s which was my primary pad. The initial bite characteristics are a little different; once I got used to that I could confidently beat the hell out of the BHPs with no fade or other ill side effects. They have more reserve capacity than any other pad I've used. Rotor wear is reasonable and the pads look to be about 30% used up after 3 days of play or a total of about 3.5 hrs and 260 miles. My car weighs 2,550 and hits about 140mph with stock ITR calipers and Autozone rotors." Allan Haggai – 2006 NASA H2 National Champion

“My car has never stopped this well” – Charlie Guthrie, THSCC/NASA driving instructor

"Took the car to Putnam Park, a nice 2 mile track in Cloverdale, In., today. Using the same pads that I used at St Louis. I decided to give them a good workout. After a gentle warm-up (new tires), I went into turn one and told myself not to brake till I saw God. Well I didn't see God but I scared myself pretty good. I made the corner ok just ugly. The brakes stopped better than anything that I've tried before. I just waited way to long. After cleaning out my shorts, I continued. No fade through any of the sessions, however I will have to bleed the system more frequently. They actually worked better as they got hotter. That is to say at the initial application of the pedal their is a light grab that get progressively tighter as the event continues. When the pedal is released the pads release instantly.
Short version I love them."  – Ralph Porter, SSB Mini Cooper S

“I found the BHP PR1 brake pads to be more effective than the pads I had been using.  I could brake later, while still under complete control.  I found no increase in rotor wear.  During the NASA National Championship race, one competitor mentioned how surprised he was when I out-braked him. In Spec E30 racing, a driver needs every legal advantage.  I plan to use BHP brakes for sure.” - Carter Hunt, Spec E30 Founder and Series Administrator.

“OK, finally got to the track with your PR1 pads.  I was only able to run them one day, but I'm very impressed with them so far.  The initial bite is aggressive yet linear, and they showed no signs of fade in the time I ran them.” – WCGT racer David Farmer, stock C6 Z06

"It has been great using your pads for the last few races of the season…they grip great, never fade and seem to be holding up fantastically after 10 sessions…of the 4 races run with them, we have 2 wins, 1 second and an off in the 4th when I was attempting a pass for the lead….i couldn’t be happier!" -- Jack Higginbotham, NASA 944 Cup

Verdict...I liked them a lot. Thinking back, I believe they might have more braking power than the HT-10's I had on the car at Summit before. As a matter of fact on Saturday I was able to out brake a fellow CMC into turn one and make the pass. I tried it on Sunday, but the Mustang I was passing has more power than I me and pulled me up the hill into 3. That was not the brakes fault. I did lock them up once on Sunday. We got a red flag at turn 7-8. So I had to jump on them with the car in transition. But it did stop quickly and under control.

The pads have a nice linear feel to them, never grabbing if I had to stab them. That is what these live rear axle cars need. That is handy in the chute, when I needed to tap them and go without upsetting the car. One of these days I will be brave enough to not have to use brakes in the chute.

Funny thing, I never smelled the brakes. Even though they were brand new, I never got that brake odor.

I have not checked the wear since I got home. But on Sunday morning, they looked pretty much brand new.

Overall, I am pretty impressed with them and would recommend them. As a matter of fact, I did mention them to some of the Mustang guys. Seems like the pad choice for the Fox bodies are down to Carbotech. And no one likes those.   – Jim Pastorious, NASA CMC

CR 6

“Need to get past that guy? For the first time this year I was comfortable pulling a late-brake move.” - Jarrod Igou, Spec Miata

“I loved them! Granted, Shenandoah isn’t exactly hard on brakes, but the pads felt fantastic with no sign of fade on an unseasonably warm weekend. They stopped great, had a good initial bite and were very easy to modulate.”  Brian Maeng, NASA-MA driving instructor

“Matt sent me a set of BHP CR6 compound pads to try out on my Integra and I gave them a triple duty test this weekend. Track day at BeaveRun on Saturday, Street driving on Saturday and Sunday, and an Auto-X on Sunday. Versatile is the correct word for this pad! I simply cannot believe how well they worked at everything I threw at them. I ran my first session on the old Cobalt GT Sports to re-establish a baseline to compare the new pads to. I hadn't run a track day since June so it was the only way to get an accurate comparison. I have heard that BeaveRun is seriously hard on brakes, and it was my first time at the track which means that I was probably using them more than I should have been, but the BHPs were phenomenal! It was stone cold on Saturday but they felt like they warmed up to full operating temperature without even trying on the warmup lap. After only a few laps of working up my confidence in them I was braking later and harder into turns 1 and 10 than I had been with the Cobalt GT Sports that I ran in the first session, and have been running for the past two seasons. They were working so well that I could really get on the binders hard without having to worry about locking them up. I still have GT Sports on the rear and the car felt very stable with that combination. If I applied the brakes hard at the exit of turn 9 before having the steering wheel pointed totally straight ahead, because I was catching slower traffic and couldn't carry the speed I normally would into 10, the tail would do one little slither to the left but the BHP pads are so easy to modulate that just the slightest relaxation of my right foot had the car right back in line. I don't have experience with a lot of different pads on the track but I must say that these things simply blow everything else I have used out of the water!

On my way home it was still very cold out and I probably spent close to an hour on the highway without even touching the brake pedal. I had to take a long, straight, downhill offramp so I just applied very light and consistent pressure to the brake pedal. As the brakes built up heat the car just started slowing down progressively harder until I had to start letting off the pedal to keep a consistent rate of deceleration. It was kind of like the opposite of the feeling you get as a turbo car builds boost under load and piles on the speed without even moving the gas pedal.

Sunday started out cold but it warmed up nicely over the course of the day. There is not much to say about where I finished or how well I did because I was driving an uncompetetive STX car on Azenis in Street Mod. I haven't even looked at the final results yet. Once again, the BHP pads worked amazingly well. I never locked a wheel all day long except for a few chirps after the finish line on my best run of the day. That was one of the issues with the Cobalts when autocrossing is that they either bite too hard initially or can't be modulated as well because I always found myself locking wheels when I used them. They somehow seemed too agressive for auto-x and not quite up to snuff on the track. The CR6s are better suited to both. I like to be able to steer my car with lift throttle and small brake applications and when I was driving correctly the car did exactly what I wanted it to. Even when I entered a 270* loop too hot and got on the brakes harder than usual, they didn't lock, they just slowed me down and I got back on the line.

Overall, I was extremely impressed and for the way I use my car I don't see any reason to ever try another set of pads again. I'm hooked!

As a bonus, the CR6s are a hell of a lot less dusty than the Cobalts and they are dead silent. One of my biggest complaints about the Cobalt GT Sports is that they were always so damn squeaky on the street, to the point where it was embarassing to drive thru town! It is simply not an issue with the BHPs and my white wheels stay whiter!” – Kyle Roosa

“Another bonus is what dust they do give off, is easily washed off.  Even if you let it sit on the wheels for a week!” – Ryan Holton

“The CR6 compound is simply on another level altogether.  I've recently returned to Solo 2 after spending several years racing wheel to wheel.  Recently I was asked to give the CR6 a try in place of my Hawk HP Plus pads.  This is on a well-developed A Stock Honda S2000, which has had a handful of National-caliber drivers at the wheel helping with setup and development.  Today (10-13-07), it was me and Aaron Buckley (4th place DS, 2007 Solo 2 National Championships) driving.

The CR6 simply blew us away.  Rather than being like an on-off switch like the Hawks, they are completely linear in nature.  Whether we needed a light brush to set the nose, or we needed to stand the car on its nose for a 1st-gear turnaround, they were always right there.  A very nice change of pace from the "always parking the car" Hawks, which I didn't know I hated until I tried these.  It took me zero time to adjust to them - they work completely intuitively.  Release is immediate.

I think you guys have hit a home run with this compound as an all-purpose pad.  Perfectly streetable, and they don't change much (to my foot anyway) at all with different levels of heat in them.  They make braking a no-brainer - I didn't really even have to think about it, I was able to focus on my line and attacking the course.

They made an already solid car that much more confidence inspiring.  Thank you for developing such a great compound.”
