Motorsports Introduction
BHP's founder prior to starting BHP worked for a large European brake friction manufacturer and was responsible for the formulation, testing, and development of championship winning composite friction materials used in Champ Car, NASCAR Winston / Nextel Cup, Busch, Truck and Trans Am. In addition to these high level North American Series there have been numerous wins and championships in junior classes in North America and worldwide success in Rallying, Touring Car and GT Racing.
Suffering from pro racing 'burn out' BHP's founder left his job and started BHP with the intent of addressing the needs of the vehicle platforms requiring high temperature, high energy brake system performance.
By concentrating our efforts in this way, BHP has developed its Pro-race and Club-race line of friction materials. The Pro-race materials are based on BHP’s past experience in compounding , testing and fielding professional championship winning formulations which offer extremely high fade resistance, superior wear rate, low disc wear, stable and repeatable torque output. What sets BHP's race friction apart from our competition are the little details that charts can not show but are vital to a drivers success in the heat of battle. Stable and repeatable torque output with excellent modulation, and exceptional release characteristics.
BHP race friction is manufactured using the expensive heated mold, positive displacement method and is NOT flash molded. The cheaper flash molding method used by our bigger competitor usually results in high wear, low friction density, poor release and unstable high temperature torque output.
Using our own in-house, computer controlled, inertia brake dynamometer for testing and development. BHP racing friction offers a level of braking technology that was previously available only to professional race teams using large, multi-piston race calipers. Now, BHP offers it to the amateur and club racer at prices that are competitive with competitors using cheaper flash molding.
Relying on 15 years of experience in pro racing friction formulation, BHP recognizes that one pad technology will not work for all applications. As a result, we evaluate each application with our in-house dynamometer and on track testing to determine the best material for each individual application.
