Brake Pads

Fact: The friction material that stops a Miata will not competitively stop a Corvette. BHP utilizes application specific compounding based on our past experience in professional motorsports.  We have many in-house materials and choose the best friction solution for each application. Our founders past experience gained in stopping some of the fastest race cars on the planet has resulted in composite friction materials that are unmatched in fade resistance, high-temperature friction stability, repeatability, and wear rate, while producing a near-perfectly smooth rotor finish(a must for repeatability). NO RIVETS!

All BHP friction composites are integrally molded for superior shear strength and NEVER riveted. Riveting is a cheap way to manufacture brake pads but will usually lower friction shear values in addition to compromising the overall brake pad compressibility. The higher compressibility of riveted pads usually translates to poor pedal feel and feedback of impending lock up.

BHPs uses a broad range of friction technologies.  These include cold mold low metallic materials for lighter race cars with fade resistances up to 1000F, and high pressure hot molded, carbon based, semi metallic materials for heavier and faster race cars with fade resistances up to 1900F. Each application is designed from the outset to have a broad braking threshold that gives the competitor a greater feel of impending lock up. This braking threshold when coupled with the superior release characteristics BHP friction materials, gives our customers superior stopping power with a level of control not found in our competitors formulations.

PR1
Intended exclusively for racing vehicles over 2500 pounds in weight. The exception to this would be for Formula cars that derive high levels of aerodynamic down force. PR1 offers the latest advancements in modern friction technology.  This carbon based semi-metallic composite is a high density compression molded material offering unparalleled initial bite, control, and release.  With a fade resistance of at least 1900F, PR1 will continue to perform long after other friction materials fade to nothing.

Warning: Due to this incredible heat range, BHP recommends GS610 brake fluid to reduce the potential of fluid boil. This friction composite must NEVER be used for any street application!  Recommended applications: Race cars weighing in excess of 2500lbs, including T1, T2, T3, ITS, AS, American Iron, etc.

PR3
PR3 is a lower friction version of PR1 that is designed for lighter vehicles. Similar in composition to the PR1 and manufactured identically to the PR1 using high temperature / pressure positive displacement molding. PR3 is a carbon based semi-metallic composite that offers all of the advantages of PR1 for lighter vehicles such as ultra high heat range (up to 1900F) disc friendly interface, high intimal bite with dramatically superior release characteristics.

Warning: Due to this incredible heat range, BHP recommends GS610 brake fluid to reduce the potential of fluid boil. This friction composite must NEVER be used for any street application!  Recommended applications: Race cars weighing less than 2500lbs.

CR6
Developed for cars under 2500 lbs, this organic-low metallic compound offers very progressive torque development with excellent control and release.  Operating temperatures are from ambient to 1000F.  CR6 offers a wide variety of uses including autocross, beginner/intermediate track schools, and dedicated race use on lighter race cars (ie: Spec Miata).  Although CR6 is street able enough to be driven to/from your event, making it a “jack of all trades” brake pad. CR6 is intended for OFF ROAD USE ONLY!

Recommended applications:  All Autocross, Beginner / Intermediate Track School and Race Cars under 2500 lbs.
